1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They have top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top pick) they employ intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.
It's still a good value particularly if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also quiet and can be used while you're at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be utilized to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire home, and it did so with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on various flooring and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's compact models, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty the areas are.
If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would expect from its price tag. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
